Your little darling has grown quite fast over the last few months, and so has her appetite! Lucky for the two of you, it’s time to present some new yummies to her diet.

Ideally, you want to give your child a broad range of foods. That being said, it’s essential not to rush through this process. You need to take your time in offering these new foods, and attempt to space them out by a several days. For example, once you begin feeding your baby pureed carrots, don’t present any new foods for around 2 or 3 days. This will give you abundant time to calculate whether or not your little one is allergic to the new food. It will also enable your toddler to get used to and experience all the different tastes and textures.

The older your baby is when you begin to introduce her to solid types of food, the more easily her digestive tract will be able to deal with the new, foreign substances. This is the key point in preventing severe allergic reactions to food.

Bear in mind that your child may not be fond of or accept a particular food right away. This is nothing to stress about. Experts say that it could possibly take anywhere from 10 to 20 servings of the same food before anyone will accept it. In few cases, it takes that many servings before they will even try it!

You want to develop a “Baby Feeding” routine or schedule, and stick to it. Try to set up specific mealtimes and engage in talking, smiling and encouraging your infant. You want these times to be comfortable and happy, as well as steady. Doing so will make your toddler comprehend what is happening and what her role in the routine consists of.

Once your toddler has eaten a selection of stand-alone foods, it should be time to test a few mixtures of food. However, try to overcome the urge of mixing in a food loved by your toddler, with a food she hates. There is a good chance she will end up liking neither.

You may notice a fluctuation in your baby’s appetite. This is entirely normal and can be a consequence of a range of things. Whether it’s a growth spurt, the weather, your child being too alert, too drained or even a little sick, her desire to eat may vary from day to day. Not only that, but her preferences may change as well. For instance, the cold is likely to make food taste a bit different, and so does being crabby! So the food she unquestionably loved yesterday may not be so interesting today.

It may be hard to understand your toddler’s reaction to certain foods. Does she like it? Does she detest it? Just because she offers you an unusual expression or even a look you translate as “disgust”, try and give her another spoonful of the food in question. If she loves it, she will open her mouth and try it again. If she doesn’t, try not to be forcible or persistent. You can make an effort again with the exact same food on a different day. Don’t toss in the towel just because of her first reaction.
